Special Performance/Special Teaching

Here is an idea from Zach for discussion -- We discussed what makes a performance really special and moving for the performers (playing with great musicians, playing great music, uniqueness of experience, importance to experience). I'm curious as to what people think makes a teaching experience really special- connection to students? student abilities? student improvement?

  1. The special teaching experience for me comes not from the most talented student but from the ones who try the hardest. It's the student who is not very talented but loves music and works hard. The special moment comes when they finally memorize the piece, when they finally understand the 2 eight notes equal 1 quarter note. It's when they finally get a Superior at festival or make through the recital. It's the 8 year old who loves piano so much that she giggles all through her lesson. It comes when the student who said I can't, finally can.
